Beetroot is rich source of antioxidants as well as good levels of many nutrients, including, Folic Acid, Vitamin B6, Fibre, Manganese, Potassium, carotenoids, Vitamin C, Iron and pigments called Betalains and Betaine. Betaine (also known as TMG) has been shown to help reduce the blood concentration of homocysteine, a substance linked to heart disease.  

Betalains are nitrogen-containing, water-soluble, reddish plant pigments which have a range of desirable biological activities and may help manage blood pressure.
